OCCUPATION: Farmer DEATH: Will Date: 9 Jan 1806; Will Proven: 20 Apr 1807. NOTES: 1. Owned land in Hampshire and Berkeley Counties, Virginia (now West Virginia). 2. John Higgins was mentioned in George Washington's diary of August 7, 1769 when Washington engaged John Higgins to board his coach horses. 3. John was the original owner of a building lot in Bath (now Berkley Springs). 4. George Washington had two lots about three blocks from John Higgins and Judiah Higgins, John's brother.
NAME: Hetty or Harriet HIGGINS
DEATH: Will Date: 18 Sep 1843, filed in Romney, Hampshire County, West Virginia; Will Probate: 19 Oct 1843; NOTES: 1. Moved to Union County, Kentucky in 1820 from Bath County, Virginia where his wife died in 1826. 2. Soon after her death he moved back to Hampshire County, Virginia until 1842. 3. Died from TB exactly one month after his daughter, Elizabeth. RESEARCH NOTE: Elizabeth is James' second marriage. No info on first except tht she died in 1826 in Kentucky. No evidence that this statement is true.
