    1. Moved from New York to Smithfield, Pennsylvania to Hampshire County, Virginia (now West VA) to Mercer County, Kentucky.
    2. At the age of ten years, entered a vessel as a cabin boy, afterward married the Captain's daughter, Hannah VanZant, and obtained command of the ship. 
    3. In after years, he settled in New York State, and moved to Virginia, where he married a Miss Wright.
