NOTES: 1. Moved from New York to Smithfield, Pennsylvania to Hampshire County, Virginia (now West VA) to Mercer County, Kentucky. 2. At the age of ten years, entered a vessel as a cabin boy, afterward married the Captain's daughter, Hannah VanZant, and obtained command of the ship. 3. In after years, he settled in New York State, and moved to Virginia, where he married a Miss Wright.

John Higgins was mentioned in George Washington's diary of August 7, 1769 when Washington engaged John Higgins to board his coach horses. 3. John was the original owner of a building lot in Bath (now Berkley Springs). 4. George Washington had two lots about three blocks from John Higgins and Judiah Higgins, John's brother.
NOTES: 1. Robert was one of the most prominent public-spirited men of Lewis Township and of Brown County.
He married Hannah VanZant Abt 1740 at New Amsterdam, New York . Hannah VanZant was born at New Amsterdam, New York 1711 .
