Theron Spencer PROVANCE, ESQUIRE
My great grandfather is buried in the Hopwood Ross Cemetery located behind theProvance family homestead off Coolspring Road in Hopwood. He and his wife SusanOverholt Bowman Provance raised twelve children in this home and many of themare buried in the Provance family area of that cemetery. Pheron Provance wasa farmer and a hard worker. I was only one year old when he died. I do remember visiting my great grandma Susan Provance. She was tiny in stature.
My great grandmother was buried (18 March, 1952)in the Hopwood Cemetery in Hopwood, Pennsylvania behind Coolspring Road along side her husband and many of their twelve children. Susan Overholt Bowman and Pheron Spencer Provance weremarried by Justice of the Peace, Marshall N. Lewis, Jr. His home was listed asNew Geneva, Fayette, Pennsylvania and Susan as same county and state.
Theron Spencer Provance is buried in the Hopwood Ross Cemetery behind his childhood home, Theron and Susan Overholt Provance homestead. His life work was a building contractor. The home he built where his sons Theron Spencer, Jr. and Harold La Clair were born, is still standing in Chalk Hill, Fayette, Pennsylvania. It is a gift shop now and is located behind the Stone House Restaurant Bed and Breakfast. Pictures of he and his two sons and the home he built are hangingon the wall of the Stone House as a tribute to him.
Aunt Alma Provence (Lieb) was very adament that the last name of Provance had been changed from Provence and therefore used that spelling. Provance is misspelled on her grave marker to her dismay. She died in the home of her nephew, Jesse Allen Provance on Coolspring Road, Hopwood Pennsylvania and is buried in theHopwood Ross Cemetery in the Provance Family plot behind her childhood home, the Theron and Susan Overholt Provance homestead. She was a school teacher. Also spelled Provence
Married to Ethyl Ingles. The grave marker spells the name Provance, "Provence". Benjamin's wife name printed on the grave marker is Mary Ethel 1889--1922. Benjamin is buried in the Hopwood Ross Cemetery behind the Theron and Susan Overholt Provance homestead.
