Soon after his marriage, he settled in Lempster, New Hampshire, where he remained twenty years clearing his farm, and teaching in the only school each winter during his early years in the place. He was also much engaged in the business of the town, and filled most of the offices within its gift. He also organized the militia, which in 1804 consisted of two companies, one commaded by himself, and the other by his brother. In 1809, Capt. Spaulding sold his farm and removed to Ashburnham, Massachusetts, upon the old homestead of his father. In 1814, he was stricken with paralysis. He removed to Jericho, Vermont in 1819, where he died 23 January 1823, aged 53 years 3 months. His widow died at the residence of her daughter, in Hadley, New York, 2 November 1853, aged 80 years. They had nine children, six sons and three daughters, and not a death occurred in the family for over thirty years, until Capt. Spaulding's own death.

He had three sons, two of whom died unmarried, and the third was a succeessful banker in Burlington, Vermont. Jessica W. Stevens, 1053 Serpentine Dr., South, St. Petersburg, FL 33705-6139, in 22 May 1997 letter to Kenneth M. Reim, advised the death of Hosea SPAULDING was 12 Oct 1874, the smae date as in the "History of Jericho, VT", page 626.
