Oscar Morris HENNIG was born in the Riverside Community, located about 10 miles north of Tekamah, Burt County, Nebraska. For a number of years, he taught school in Districts 35, 30 and 6. He was a successful farmer and was considered an authority on Burt County agricultural affairs and conditions. He was an active leader in farm cooperatives movements and took a great interest in the progress of his community and county. He held many offices of thrust in the various organizations to which he belonged. Oscar HENNIG and his wife Lena Amelia (WOODARD) HENNIG (1874-1964) retired from farming in 1932, from their farm 3/4 mile west of the Riverside School, 10 miles north to Tekamah, to 316 North 13th Street, Tekamah, Nebraska. When he moved to Tekamah, he joined the Men's Bible Class at the Baptist Church and took an active part in religious education. He passed away at his home in Tekamah on July 28, 1943 having reached the age of 74 years and 5 days.

She came with her parents to Nebraska in 1883 and lived in Burt County, Nebraska the rest of her life. Her education was recieved in Tekamah. She passed her teacher's examination and taught in the Pleasant Home District and Golden Springs District. She served as organist in the Luthern Church for several years befor her marriage. She was active in the Riverside Church Mission Circle and served as treasurer of the organization for many years. She joined the First Baptist Church in Tekamah March 5, 1944, and was a faithful worker until her health failed. See the notes for her husband, Oscar MorrisHENNIG, for further information.

Born 26 Aug 1894 on farm home 1/2 mile west, second house west on the south side of the road, of Riverside School District No. 6, 10 miles north of Tekamah, Silver Creek Township, Burt County, Nebraska, to Oscar Maurice HENNIG and Lena Amelia (WOODARD) HENNIG. Within four years after Frederick's birth, their home was moved 1/4 mile further west to a farmstead on the south side of the road. He attended through the 8th grade at Riverside School District No. 6, located one mile south of the current location (1999), and in the fall of 1906 attended school in the new Riverside School building (current location). There was no rural High School at that time, so in 1913 and 1914 he attended Boyles Buisness College in Omaha with several other boys in the area. Frederick (Fred) married Willma Esther ELLIOTT 21 Aug 1918, with Claude Seymore HENNIG (1899-1986) and Ruth ELLIOTT, brother and sister, as witnesses. They lived on his grandfather's, F.M. HENNIG, homestead farm just west of the Riverside School, where two children were born, Robert Morris 5 Jul 1919, and Erwin Kenneth 21 Nov 1921. They lived there until 1926 when they moved to his father's, Oscar Maurice HENNIG, farm 1/2 mile further west. He farmed this land and 80 acres of Missouri River bottomland about 1-1/2 miles east that belonged to his uncle, William Albert HENNIG (1864-1945). In 1948, they moved to a farm called the "Morrow Place" they owned, located 1/3 mile north of the Riverside School on U.S. Highway 75. He lived there with his wife Willma until his sudden death from a heart attack on 19 Jan 1965. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church, served as church treasurer for 30 years, trustee for many years, and Deacon for several years. Went to grade school in the same district, No. 6, but the old school house was south a mile or little more, and in the fall of 1906 went into the 6th grade and the new Riverside School building. Completed the 8th grade in 1910 at District No. 6. Gertrude's father insisted she was too young to go to the Tekamah for high school, thus, the 8th grade was taken for a second year. Attended Tekamah High School from the fall of 1911 and graduated May 1915 as salutatorian of the class. Took normal training course, including three years of Latin. Gertrude stayed with her Uncle Arthur Levi HENNIG and worked for board and room by keeping house with the help of his daughter Helen, who was five years younger than Gertrude. Uncle Arthur's wife, Olive (WALLACE) HENNIG, passed away 11 Apr 1911, leaving a 10-year old daughter, Helen. Gertrude taught in rural Burt County grade schools, starting in the fall of 1915 through the spring of 1922; teaching at District No. 41, 1915-1917; District No. 4, 1917-1918; District No. 23, 1918-1919; District 50, 1919-1921; and Riverside School District No. 6, during the school year 1921-1922 (reference Burt County Superintendent of Schools). Attended Wayne State Normal School the summer of 1919, taking courses in music, psychology, English and piano lessons. Also took a correspondence course in English from Wayne State Normal School during the school year 1921-1922. Gertrude met Herman A. REIM while both were teaching at the Riverside School during the fall of 1921, engaged at Christmas 1921, and married 6 Jun 1922 at her folks home. They moved to a farm house 1/2 mile south, 1/2 mile west, one mile south, and 1/2 mile west of Memphis, Saunders County, Nebraska, on the farm owned by Herman's father, Max Bruno REIM. In the fall of 1923, they moved to the main farm house on the same farm 1/2 mile east and almost 1/2 mile south. They raised three sons, Herman Frederick (Fred), Kenneth Maurice, and Harold Max, and farmed here untill Feb 1954 when they retired, and bought and moved into a home at 504 North 14th Street, Ashland, Nebraska. The old farm house was torn down in 1948, they lived in a newly built garage for one year. They moved into the new brick veneer house in January 1949. Gertrude was an active church member, at the Zion Evangelical Church south of Ithaca, Iliff Chapel United Methodist Church at Mempnis, and the Ashland United Methodist Church; teaching Sunday School and serving as church treasuer in her later years. She was also active in the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron of Matthews Chapter No. 242, Ashland, Nebraska, in 1946. Compiled by her son, Kenneth M. REIM as of 23 Jan 1999.

Claude HENNIG's youth was spent in the Riverside community, Burt County, Nebraska, where he attended school, and later was a student at Boyles College in Omaha. Claude moved to his farm just west of Rosalie, Thruston County, Nebraska in March 1921, and was married 16 Jun 1921. He was actively involved in farming for many years before his retirement. They continued to reside on the family farm untill 1984 when they moved to Lyons, Burt County, Nebraska. He was member of the Roaslie School Board for many years, and joined the First Presbyterian Church after moving to Lyons. Claude and Dorothy Hennig celebrated their 65th wedding aniversary June 15, 1986 with a family dinner at the Biltmore, Sioux City, Iowa.
