When only four and one-half years old, and the youngest child, the Porter family came by ox-team and wagon from Iowa to Nebraska and located in the Golden Springs community. He was the last survivor of the family of eleven chidren. Orin Porter married Maude Hennig, at Decatur, on 13 Jun 1888. They started life on a nearby farm, the same one on which they have lived for the past fifty-three years. In 1938, they celebrated their golden wedding aniversary with theur three children, Ivan C., Burrel H., and Esther A., family and friends. It was a double event as it also marked their half century on the same farm.

OBITUARY, 1981; was born on a farm near Decatur, Nebraska; grew up in the area of her birth, attending Golden Springs School and graduating from Riverside High School. With her husband, Rodeny TENNEY, they farmed in the Tekamah-Craig comunity and had four daughters, Margaret, Eileen, Anna Marie, who died in infancy, and Alice. At the time of her death, she was active in the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxillary, the Extension Club, all of Herman, and Rebekah Lodge of Tekamah. Her survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Margaret) Saxton of Somers, Iowa; Mrs. Paul (Eileen) Pierson of Battle Ground, Washington; Mrs. Bill (Alice) Norman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and one stepson, John L. Skinner of Middleton, Wisconsin.
He married Maude Johanna Hennig 13 Jun 1888 at Decatur, Burt County, Nebraska . Maude Johanna Hennig was born at Golden Springs, Decatur, Burt Co., Nebraska 23 May 1872 daughter of Frederick Morris Hennig and Amelia Caroline Lange .
