In the year 1865, Jonathan came with his parents in covered wagon drawn by his father's ox team, and he has been a resident of Burt County ever since. He passed away 16 Mar 1934 and leaves his wife, Anna; son Clarence of Tekamah; one grandson, C. Orval Porter of Omaha; one brother, Orin Porter of Decatur; and one half-sister, Mrs. Jane Livingston of Oklahoma. In 1885, he and his wife, Anna, attended lectures of a Seventh Day Adventist missionary evangelist, and with neighbors united with the Decatur Church of Seventh Day Adventist on 18 Apr 1886. He served the church as leader and elder for a longterm, and as clerk of the church cemetery association continually from 1892 untill his death. Jonathan Porter was very active in the community and did his part to transform the barrian prairie into farm land with modern equipment. For many years he was acive in supporting the Burt County Fair and improving roads, social and religious facilities in all parts of the county and in later years he became identified with the Pioneers and Old Settlers Association of Burt County. He was elected to 17 three-year terms as moderator of the school board of District 35.

When only four and one-half years old, and the youngest child, the Porter family came by ox-team and wagon from Iowa to Nebraska and located in the Golden Springs community. He was the last survivor of the family of eleven chidren. Orin Porter married Maude Hennig, at Decatur, on 13 Jun 1888. They started life on a nearby farm, the same one on which they have lived for the past fifty-three years. In 1938, they celebrated their golden wedding aniversary with theur three children, Ivan C., Burrel H., and Esther A., family and friends. It was a double event as it also marked their half century on the same farm.
