History of Worcester Co., Mass. by Levi B. Chase, Chap. XVI Sturbridge

Vital records of Sturbridge, MA to 1850 show only the families of Solomon and his son Solomon, no other Roods. So either the male Roods died unrecorded or moved to other communities, probably west.
The town of Sturbridge, Worcester, Mass. was established June 24, 1738 from the common land called New Medford. Oct 25 1754 certain lands were annexed to Sturbridge. June 26, 1782 a part of Charlton annexed to Sturbridge. June 25, 1794 a part of Middlesex Gore annexed to Sturbridge. Feb 16, 1816 a part of Sturbridge annexed to South Bridge.
From A Historical Sketch of Sturbridge and South Bridge by George Davis, 1856, page 21 in a chapter entitled "Shumway Hill" giving names of people who lived there: "Solomon Rood where Elias Carpenter lately lived (1856)" (Don't know which Solomon this was.)
"A Congregational Church was organized in 1736, Wednesday 29, consisting of fourteen male members, viz. . ." (Solomon, father of Solomon was listed as one of members.)
The list of soldiers of the Revolution from Sturbridge shows no Rood or any variation of the spelling.
Probate Vol. 8, p. 153 Worcester Co., MA names Solomon Rood Jr. executor of his late father Solomon Sr., late of Sudbury, 18 Apr 1763 -- distribution to heirs ordered. Sudbury is quite a ways Northeast of Sturbridge part way between Worcester and Boston.

Christening of Solomon Rood Sr. was in Lisbon, Conn. or First Ch. of Norwich. Marriage was performed by Rev. Daniel Kirkland. Solomon died at Lake George, and death was recorded in Sturbridge, Mass.
Solomon Jr. went from Mansfield, Ct. to Amherst, Mass. in 1768 with his father and brother Ezra.
