Vol. 3, p. 87 Donald Lines Jacobus, PO Box 647, New Haven, Conn., 4 May 1925 Robert Royce born probably in England, died 1676. Inventory presented in court at New London, 22 Sep 1676. He left an unsigned will in which he mentioned his wife, five sons and three daughters. New London Court Records, rec'd. Vol. 3, p. 87 Robert Royce had three sons (living?) named in deed by Nathaniel royce of Wallingford, New Haven, blacksmith. Three sons of Robert are Samuel, Isaac and myself, Nathaniel. 16 Sept, Bk. 5, p. 221 New London Land Records. Mr. Starr makes it clear that our New London man (Robert Royce) was entirely distinct from the Robert Royce who died in Boston leaving a widow, Elizabeth and children. He may have married Mary Sims at Martook, Somerset, 4 Jun 1634. Robert had land recorded to him in Stratford in 1658, but appeared to have been living in New London as early as 1657. In New London he served as constable in 1660 and represented the town as deputy in 1661. He was actually living in Stratford in Oct. of 1656, and his removal to New London must have taken place within a few months thereafter. New London, Conn. The estate of which our honored father, Robert Royce died possessed of. Agreed with mother to dispose of useless land. The children mutually agree. Who with our said mother have herewith set our hands 4 Feb. 1687. The mark of Mary Royce, Samuel Royce, Nehemiah Royce, Nathaniel Royce, John Lathrop, Jonathan Royce, John Caulkins. Witnesses: Joseph Royce, Stephen Lee. Robert Royce died at New London, Conn. in 1676, his estate being settled that year. His widow Mary died at Wallingford in 1697, as shown by New Haven Court Records, Vol. 1, p. 251. Upon the 14 July 1697 "Upon ye request of Ensign Samuel Royce, son of Mary Royce of Wallingford, deceased, intestate." Administration of her estate was granted to Samuel; no further record. The Royce Quarterly, Vol. 2, #4, Dec 1980 4th February 1687 Nehemiah, Samuel, John Lathrop and John Calkins appointed Jonathan and Nathaniel Royce their attorney to sell their portion of their father's estate in New London (N.L. deeds vol. 5:1161). This sale closed out all lands belonging to Robert - 1. From then on the Royces were all in Wallingford, Ct., except Jonathan and Sarah who resided in Norwich, Ct. At the time of the sale it is believed that the widow, Mary was living with her son, Samuel in Wallingford. Four sons and two daughters of Robert Royce settled at Wallingford. Jonathan Royce's first wife was Mary Spinning.
