Traveling from home with a large sum of money to use in his business, he was robbed and murdered near the woods about two miles from his home. ? On Jan. 3, 1760 a letter of administration for Simeon Rice of Dutchess County was given to his brother, William.

He had been a land surveyor and real estate agent for years. At age 75 he took Mary Sherwood to see the places where his father and uncles had lived and the graves were still there as well as the old covered bridge across the Never Sink River.
