    Maria pronounced her name Mar-ee-a. She did not like the British Mar-eye-a. The Historical Museum in Cedar Key lists her birth date as 1889 and her birth place as C.K. Her own records show 30 July 1888 on Buck Island. She was married in 1904 at age 16 in Jacksonville with her brother, Boaz as witness.
