Wiley Monroe HOOD
Conflicting records. Some say he was an Officer in Confederate Army, however, I found this info: Private, Confederate Army. Company G, 23 S.C. Infantry (Hatch's Reg't Coast Rangers). Enlisted Marlborough District, S.C. March 24, 1862. Discharged Oct 31, 1864. He had a store near Bingham in which he sold goods to local farmers SOURCES: 1. 1850-1880 Census Records Marlboro, South Carolina 2. 1900 Columbus, North Carolina Census
Elizabeth died when she was over 70 years old. She died in either Bladen or Columbus, N.C. Not sure if name is Gray or Owen. She was raised by grandparents named Haithcock. She may have taken her grandparents name.
I was told he stayed in S.C. all his life. He may have been born in Bingham S.C.
I have a great affinity for Grandma English. Her life must have been very difficult raising her large family, no electricity or running water etc. She must have had a good heart. After her son Wiley died, his widow and children moved in with Grandma English. My Mom and Dad plus 2 kids moved in with Grandma during the depression.
Her first name may be Nancy, not sure.
