Note: As per Henry Clay, Jr.;s journal of 1926, his grandmother, Sarah Clay's husband, or at least the father of the three children may have been James or William Hodskison. Orson & Dianne Clay researched this in England in 1962. They found a Sarah Clay with a one year old son, Henry, in the 1841 census showing her as being an inmate in the Basford, Workhouse. It was like being in a poorhouse, and the men who ran these houses could use the females for any purpose they wished. If the women wouldn't cooperate, they were kicked out on the street. Henry William, and Emma Clay were raised by their step-father, George Povey.
