                   BIRTH:     LTR 91- 1856 Census of Jones County, Iowa.  Lists Elisha as age 60 and born in New York
                 LTR 235- Shows information on Elisha Ackerman, including a birth date of 1791.  We prefer to use the census date of 1796.......Bla 01/25/102
                 LTR 85- 1860 Census of Jones County, Iowa. Shows Elisha's age as 67, which would make his birth year 1793.   (Does Elisha know when he was born?)
                 LTR 123- 1870 Census of Jones County, Iowa . This census shows the same information, but reports his age as 77, which would make his birth year 1793.    His wife, Betsey is not listed, indicating that she is deceased.
OTHER: The family journal of Edith Duncan Smuin has much of the information on this family group sheet and supports the information in the Ancestral File.  While it does  record the family (with nicknames, in some instances) it does not have dates.  This journal is now in the possession of B. Larry Allen of Providence, Ut.  IGI records Elisha's birth as About 1791 as opposed to the family journal date of Abt 1793 and the census record of 1796.
