                   Haxtun Harvest, Haxtun, Colorado, September 22, 1971IRA PIERCE LAID TO REST AT HAXTUN CEMETERY MONDAYFuneral service was held Monday morning at eleven oclock for Ira L. Pierce, a retired Haxtun farmer, who passed away Friday, September 17 following several weeks illness. He had made his home in Haxtun for the past 20 years or more.Held at The United Methodist Church, the services were in charge of Rev. Gordon Benesh. Mrs. Louis Don Folk of Mullen, Nebraska, was organist and accompanied Curtis Ruch, soloist, who sang Be Still My Soul and Lords Prayer.Bearers were Howard McConnell, Ralph Peterson, Harry Harms, Roscoe Peterson, Gale Burmester and Ralph Burton. Ushers were William Fuesz and J.W. Meakins.Concluding service and burial was at the Haxtun cemetery.The following obituary was read:Ira Louis Pierce, son of Arthur Ernest Pierce and Emma Juliet Transue, was born near Hanover, Kansas, December 15, 1888. At the age of four he moved to Detroit, Minnesota, locating near Frazee on a farm with his parents. At the age of 14 years he went with his parents to Andover, South Dakota. Six years later he went to Lucky Valley, Nebraska. Here he later filed on a Kinkaid homestead.On February 3, 1921 he was married to Lillie Alice Barnebey at Mullen, Nebraska by the Rev. Edward McGill, Methodist minister, in the parsonage. Three daughters were born to this union, Irla Louise Cleveland, Juliet Margaret Kelsey and Lydia Nanabel Dunbar. Some years prior to his marriage he united with the Methodist church at Mullen, Nebraska.From the time of marriage the family lived near Mullen, Nebraska until the spring of 1923 when they moved to Fort Lupton, Colorado, then to Boulder, Colorado and back to Mullen in 1924. Here they stayed until they moved to Phillips County, Colorado in 1929. His parents and two brothers, Ernest Burt and John, and two sisters Mary and Myrtle Margaret (Fisk) preceded him in death. He was a farmer all his life, and was happiest when working. Surviving are his three daughters, four grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.
