Newspaper notice of Maria Young's death: Mrs. Maria Martin McPhie Young, 94, of Kemmerer died Saturday, April 4, at the South Lincoln Hospital. Born December 31, 1875, in Burrough of Bishop Briggs, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Marion Robertson McPhie. She came to the United States in 1881 with her parents and lived in Grasscreek, Utah. The family later moved to Almy, Wyoming, then to Salt Lake City, where, as a young girl, she attended the dedicaiton of the Salt Lake Temple. She moved to Rock Springs, where she was married to Louchlin Black Young on July 5, 1897. In 1899 they moved to Frontier, Wyo. Active in the Latter-day Saints Church, Mrs. Young worked in the relief society and primary organizations. She also helped to organize the "Bobby Burns" celebrations which were an annual event for the Scotch residents of Kemmerer. Surviving are three sons, Ben of Kemmerer, Bruce of Houston, Texas, and Earl of Pinedale, Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Kate) Brown and Mrs. Paul (Marion) Griff of Kemmerer, and Edna Young of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, Ben McPhie, Nampa, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Turner, Cedar City, Utah; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1955, and three sons, George, Johnny and Elmer. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 7, in the Kemmerer Second LDS Ward Chapel, under the direction of Bishop Bruce R. Hymas. Family prayer at the mortuary was given by Kendall Yost, grandson. Funeral services were as follows: Opening prayer, Earl A. Evans, first counselor; obituary, Bishop Hymas; music selection, "Oh My Father" by combined Singing Mothers, lst and 2nd Wards; remarks by Bishop Wilford Williams; "The Lord's Prayer" by Kendall Peterson, accompanied by Vonzaa Stubbs; remarks by Bishop Hymas; closing son "Abide With Me" by Singing Mothers; closing prayer by Douglas Stubbs, second counselor. Dedication of the grave by Wilford Biggs. Interment was in the Diamondville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Max Borino, Jack Douglas, Danny and Mim Griff, Bruce Young, Merwin Marocki.
