Laird ?,Freeport,Illinois 61032 Dec 1985 Letitia Palfrey Obituary Letitia Kennedy was born in Pennygrig, South Wales in 1851 (?) and passed away at her home in Shullsburg Twp., April 10, 1920 of a paralytic stroke, being 67 years of age. In 1872 she was married to John Palfrey. To this union seven children were born. Four little girls died in early childhood of scarlet fever, two of them dying on the same day; also John and Fred who preceded her in death just two years ago, and James who alone remains to bear the burden of her loss. Her husband Mr. Palfrey preceded her in death 22 years ago. In 1900 she was married to Richard Glasson who is left to miss the care of a dutiful wife and helpmate. She also has seven grandchildren. She was not a trained nurse but an experienced nurse. All her life was one long devotion to her neighbors or anyone who needed her assistance in sickness or sorrow. She was always ready day or night to give not only her care but also her comfort. She will be sadley missed by her numerous friends. She won her reward and is sweetly sleeping in Jesus in whom she put her trust. She was laid to rest in the Leadmine Cemetery of the Primitive Methodist Church on April 12. Rev. Blenkinsop officiating, carried by the following life long friends, Patrick Mc Carthy, Sam DeRocher, Jos. Bell, Thos. Cherry, John and Henry Mullen and followed by almost the entire community, so great was their love for her. Her aged husband and only son have the heartfelt sympathy of all the commununity. Obit: Frederick Palfrey Frederick Palfrey was born July 13, 1883 in New Diggings. He passed away at the sanitoruim at Prairie du Chien at 10:15 P.M. April 12, 1918 at the age of 34 years 9 months. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Rowe, March 25, 1902. She departed this life Sept. 14, 1904. to this union one child was born, passing away in infancy. He was unnited in marriage with Miss Ida Jane Rowe August 18, 1908. She passed away June 1, 1912. To this union one child was born, also passing away in infancy He was united in marriage with Mrs Charlotte Bainbridge Carter, Oct. 13, 1915. To this union two children were born, and one survives him. His life has been spent in this community. He was well and favorably known, having been in the livery business here in the past four years.. He has left to mourn his departure, a dear wife, one son Gordon Frederick Palfrey and his aged mother and one brother James Idris Palfrey of Shullsburg, Wisc. Funeral servies were held at Primitive Methodist Church at Leadmine conducted by Rev. J.D. Blenkinsop assisted by Rev. Mr Clough of New Diggings. He died of leakage of the heart. Buried the same day as brother John. Obit of John said the cortege met in Benton and wended its way to the Promitive Methodist Church at Leadmine where funeral services were conducted. Neither obit said where they were buried. Need to search for a Leadmine Cemetery. The brother James was buried in the Leadmine Cemetery also the mother Letitia. There is a probate for Fred Palfrey in Lafayette Co.,Wisc. E 4661;

Laird?,Laurel?, Freeport Il 61032 Dec 1985 Obit James Idris Palfrey James Idris Palfrey, youngest son of the late John and Letitia Palfrey was born near Shullsburg, April 28, 1886 and passed away at his home in the same vicinity on April 5, 1940 at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 21 days. On June 10, 1908 he was united in marriage to Mary Eliza (Mae) Tippett. Six Children blessed this happy home. He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, three daughters, Mrs Elmer (Gladys Letitia) Harwick, Mrs Thomas (Mary Ellen) Mullen of Shullsburg, Leah There is a probate for James Palfrey in Lafayette Co.,Wisc. 1941 E 8504 Jane at home and one son Frederick Stanley also at home. He also leaves three grandchildren, Lola Gene and Mae Mullen, and David Harwick, besides several relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by two children, Gwendolyn Mae, who pased away in infancy, and Gerald Idris who passed away in 1932, also by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. He has been a resident of Shullsburg Township all his life and was regarded by all as a warm - hearted, open-handed, wholesouled good fellow. Funeral services were held from the M.E. Church in Shullsburg, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.K. Hotton of Benton assisted by Rev. C.E. Weed of Shullsburg,. Interment was in Leadmine Cemetery.
