BIRTH:Calculated from age on 1880 Federal Census Mooselake,Carlton,MN GSF#1,254,615; MARR:Cert #47 Carlton County,MN; DEATH:Cert from St. Paul, Ramsey County,MN; BURIAL:Lot in Pine City Cemetary,Pine,MN; Benjamin has a lot in Pine City,Pine,MN and it is assumed both he and his wife Rosella are buried there. All the records burned in the city building and they only have a copy of lots owned in the cemetary and not who is buried in them. 1880 federal census Village of Mooselake,Carlton,Mn. fhl# 1,254,616 Census taken 16 Jun 1880 #41 Benjamin Sweet p.6 Benj. Sweet white male age 33 Boards Single Laborer Born in New York Father Born in New York Mother born in Canada Boarding at Thomas Dunsmore 1885 state census Hinckley,Pine,Mn. fhl# 565,756 Benjamin Sweet age 39 male white born NY Rose Sweet age 29 female white born Minn Mary Sweet age 4 female white born Iowa Benj Sweet age 2 male white born Minn None of the parents were foreign born. Rosella probably gave the census information and might not have known Benjamin's mother was born in Canada. The census taker probably reversed the places of birth of Rosella and Mary. The Mother could be French Canadian being June has heard there is a a French Canadian connection. I have only been able to locate Benjamin in the 1880 federal census. There is not a 1890 census and he is dead before the 1900 census. I have done some searching in the 1850 census but have been unable to locate a family with a child named Benjamin. There are very many Sweet families in New York state.
BIRTH:Calculated from age at death;1880 Fed.Census Village of Mooselake,MN; MARR:#47 Carlton County,MN; DEATH:Copy of cert 4/24/1890 Pine County,MN; BURIAL:Lot in Pine City,Pine,MN No headstone; There was a fire in Pine County City Building and destroyed the cemetary records. The only record left was the one in the cemetary sextons truck and said who was owner of the lot and where they were located. Benjaman bought the lot and he and Rosella are probably buried there. No way of proving this. 1880 federal census fhl# 1,254,616; #49 Village of Mooselake,Mooselake Twp.,Carlton,Mn Rosella Adams White Female age 18 yrs. Rosella probably gave the census information and may not have known Benjamin's Mother was born in Canada. The research done on the Adams family at this time has not shown any evidence of Indian Heritage.
BIRTH:Family Records;Letter from orphanage in St.Paul,MN; MARR:Copy of marriage cert from Carlton County,MN; DEATH:Headstone;Death Cert Salt Lake City,Salt Lake,UT page 414; BURIAL:Headstone; LDS: Grandma died of a complications from a bowel obstruction. Son Lawrence Carter was the informant on the death certificate. Other Sources: LDS Archive Sheet Grandmother's mother Rosella died young and the four children were placed in an orphanage when their father either didn't or couldn't take care of them. After Rosella died there was a fire in Hinkley (there is a book written about the fire) and Grandmother was the one to get her brother's and sister's to safety. Her brother John ran away from the orphanage and Grandmother was taken in by the the Cliff Dunham family who she lived with until she married Grandpa Carter. After she and Grandpa came to Utah she sent for her sister Winnie who came to live with them and died shortly after she came. Grandma evidently didn't have any family information that she recorded for the family. They knew she had family in Iowa but no records. All pictures and records could have been burned in the Hinckley fire. My father James Lawrence Carter had a family sheet prepared by someone and my parents couldn't remember who had prepared it but thought it had been given to them by Ida Callon's daughter Frankie on a visit to California to see her.

This appears to be Gertrude's parents. 1920 federal census Harbor Creek Twp.,West District fhl# 1,821,567; Al,Lucile and Deanne Sweet supplied family information on this family. June Sweet Bules, Gladys Nash Sweet and Pearl Fye Sweet also supplied family information on their families. Unable to locate a marriage certificate in Ashtubula County,OH where the children were born. All family members including a sister of Gertrude's said the marriage was in Ashtabula but there is no record. Frances said married three years in the 1910 fed. census so they would have been married before 16 Apr 1907. Have copy of application for annuity for Frances for John's Railroad retirement. She gave the marriage date as 20 Aug 1907 in Kenmore,New York; Question on the middle initial for John on this application. It looked like an M and we have his middle name as Lawrence which seems reasonable as his sister Myrtle named her second son Lawrence.
