JASPER JESSIE LITTLE, WAS A FARMER IN WEST BLOCTON, BIBB COUNTY, ALABAMA. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE 44TH REGIMENT ALABAMA INFANTRY, COMPANY B, CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY AND ENLISTED ON 19 MARCH 1962, AT SCOTTSVILLE, ALABAMA. THIS TOWN AT THAT TIME WAS A MAJOR POINT OF COMMERCE, WITH STORES, RIVER WITH BRIDGE, RAILROAD, AND AN AMUSEMENT PARK. HIS NAME APPEARS AS SIGNATURE TO A ROLL OF PRISONERS OF WAR PAROLED AT FORT NORFOLK, VIRGINIA, 29 JUNE 1863, PLACE NOT STATED. THE COMPANY MUSTER ROLL FOR JULY AND AUGUST OF 1864, DATED 20 NOV 1864, LAST ON FILE, SHOWS HIM PRESENT "RETURNED TO DUTY 10 NOV 1864." HE WAS SURRENDERED BY GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE, CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY AND PAROLED AT APPOMATTOX COURT HOUSE, VIRGINIA, 9 APRIL 1865. MY GRANDMOTHER TOLD ME HE COULD NEVER SLEEP WITH A BLANKET ON HIS FEET, BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN FROZEN DURING THE MILITARY EVENTS WHILE IN THE FILED DURING THE CIVIL WAR. HE WAS A DRUMMER BOY WHEN HE ENTERED THE CONFEDERATE ARMY DURING THE CIVIL WAR.
AMBROSE BURGESS LITTLE, AND HE LIKED TO BE CALLED BURGESS, NOT AMBROSE. HE WAS BORN IN WEST BLOCKTON, BIBB, ALABAMA ON 25 OCT 1873. HE MET HE WIFE DORA FONDE WHILE SHE WAS ATTENDING COLLEGE AT MONTEVELLO, ALABAMA, AND HE WORKED AS A BANK TELLER. THEY MARRIED ON THE 24 JAN 1900 IN MOBILE, ALABAMA AT I BELIEVE THE HOME OF HER PARENTS, HENRY & LULA FONDE, ON DAUPHANE STREET. HE WAS EMPLOYED BY BUSH GROCERY, A WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTOR AS A BOOKKEEPER FOR MANY YEARS TILL THIS COMPANY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. LATER HE WORKED FOR VEDSOL COMPANY, A MATERIAL/CLOTHING ORGANIZATION. IN HIS LAST YEARS HE WORKED FOR THE JUNEVILE COURT (COUNTY OF MOBILE) AS A CLERK FOR UP TO 10 YEARS. HE LOVED OYSTERS WITH BISCUTS WITH MALASSAS FOR BREAKFAST. HE WAS A KIND, WARM PERSON AND I FELT COMFORTABLE WITH HIM AS A SMALL BOY OF 2 TO 4 YEARS OLD. HE DIED 24 APR 1943 IN MOBILE, ALABAMA. I REMEMER MY MOTHER RECEIVING THE TELEPHONE CALL UPON HIS DEATH. SHE WAS VERY SAD, AND THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE OF DEATH, BUT IT WAS LONG DISTANCE AS WITH MY GRANDFATHER SCOTT, I COULD SEE HIM.
He married Mary (Polly) Perry 28 Oct 1851 at West Blockton, Bibb, Alabama . Mary (Polly) Perry was born at West Blockton, Bibb, Alabama 17 Aug 1834 daughter of Enos Perry and Charity Massey .
