Notes:
LUTHER JAMES SCOTT, WAS A WARM, WELL LIKED PERSON, ALWAYS CONSIDERATE & KIND.
I REMEMBER AS HE OPERATED HIS COUNTRY STORE, VERY OLD LADIES WOULD WALK ALL MORNING (ABOUT 2 TO 5 MILES, MAYBE MORE) TO REACH HIM FOR SUPPLIES. HE USUALLY DROVE THEM HOME. THEY WOULD COME WITH A BASKET OF EGGS AS A MEANS OF PAYING AS CASH WAS NOT REALLY AVAILABLE. HE WAS A 32 DEGREE, IS A MASTER OF THE ROYAL SECRET OF THE 32 DEGREE OF THE ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISHRITE, KNOWN TO US AND DULY RECOGNIZED BY US IN GOOD STANDING AND OF OUR ABEDIENCE, RESIDING AT STONE MOUNTAIN IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. HIS REGISTRAR NUMBER IS 186818. HE ALWAYS TAUGHT ME CORRECT PRINCIPALS, BUT GAVE ME ENOUGH FREEDOM TO MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS, AND IF I GOOFED UP, THEN HE WOULD HELP ME GET CORRECT. HE CAUTIONED ME NOT TO TRY SMOKING IN THE BARN, SO I WOULDN'T BURN IT DOWN, FOR HE KNEW ALL YOUNG BOYS TRY THIS. AS TO CHEWING TOBACCO, ALSO, DON'T SWALLOW THE JUICE. I DID AND GOT VERY SICK AND NEVER TRIED THIS AGAIN. AT HIS FUNERAL WHICH WAS HELD AT THE HOME IN BEDFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA, WELL OVER A HUNDRED PEOPLE CAME AND CARS WERE PARKED IN THE YARD AND ON THE HIGHWAY AS FAR AS ONE COULD SEE.
I COULD NOT ENTER THE FRONT ROOM WHERE HIS BODY WAS IN ITS CASKET, JUST TO MOVING FOR A BOY OF 12. I KNEW HIM WELL AND LOVED HIM MUCH. HIS LOSS WAS A MAJOR VOID IN MY LIFE.

Notes:
MARY FRANCES MC CABE WAS MY SPECIAL GRANDMOTHER. SHE ALWAYS WAS HAPPY TO SEE ME AND TO TALK ABOUT THE FAMILY WHICH WAS HER FIRST LOVE IN LIVE. SHE KEPT MUCH IN THE WAY OF RECORDS, NOT ONLY FORM HER TIME BUT THAT OF HER MOTHER WHO LIVED TO 96 YEARS OLD. SHE TOLD ME THAT WHEN MY GRANDFATHER, LUTHER JAMES SCOTT ASKED HER TO MARRY HIM HE ASKED FOR A PIECE OF PAPER AND PENCIL. HE WROTE, "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" AND SHE TOOK THE SAME AND WROTE, "YES". SHE INDICATED HER PARENTS WERE IN ACCORD WITH THE MARRIAGE. AFTER THEY WERE MARRIED IN BEDFORD CITY, VA., AT THE HOME OF REV. ROYALL, THEY LEFT IMMEDIATELY FOR COLORADO TO SEE MY GRANDFATHERS GRANDMOTHER AND HER SECOND HUSBAND, MR. ELLENBERGER. THEY STAYED SIX MONTHS THEN RETURNED TO VIRGINIA, BOTH WAYS BY TRAIN. SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND WARM, CARING, AND AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, REALLY DEDICATED TO THE FAMILY AND OF COURSE FRIENDS. SHE CARED FOR HER AGING MOTHER TILL HER DEATH. SHE PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLL IN MY LIFE AS DID MY GRANDFATHER, IN SHAPING MY VIEWS AND WAYS TO LIVE IN LIFE. SHE DIED AT 93 IN THE BEDFORD CITY HOSPITAL, AFTER SHE BROKE HER HIP AT HOME. SHE REALLY NEVER RECOVERED. SEEMS STRANGE BUT MY GRANDFATHER ALSO DIED HER. SHE IS BURIED AT THE MORGAN BAPTIST CHURCH, MONETA, VIRGINIA, SCOTT LOT. SHE ASSISTED MY GRANDFATHER IN THE RUNNING OF HIS STORE AT DAVIS MILL.
