NOTE:
      There is confusion abt Luke Roberts. The researchers, James Petty and JohnKitzmiller, believe that there were three Luke Roberts. Two of them are identified as Luke's Jr and there records have been mixed. One Luke Jr received a military pension his father, also Luke Jr. was in the Revelutionary War but died before pensions were available from congress. One Luke Jr was a Pvt and Fifer in Col Swifts 7th Conn Regiment. I also have a note that he served in Capt Chamberlains 2nd Conn. Col Swift's 7th Reg: Jul 1, 1780; discharged Dec 3, 1780 Capt Chamberlain's 2nd Conn: Apr-Aug 2, 1781; March 1782 to May 26 1783. [Time made up of several "short levies" or payments.] THIS POSITION OF 4 LUKE'S WAS REVERSED BY THE RESEARCHER UNDER DIRECTION OF JOHN KITZMILLER. REFER TO REPORTS DESCRIBING THE RESEARCH UNDERWAY----FJR MAY 2003.

Luke assigned his "Bounty Land Warrant" to Wm Woodward
      Warant Number 6380 acreage 100 issued Feb 17, 1797. Information found in Volumes 2 to 4 of "Land Warrants Issued Prior to 1800"

NOTES TAKEN BY LAPRIEL ROBERTS: (The notes have been edited because 2 Luke's have been combined or mixed together.)

Luke Roberts, born in Scotland, Conn. (note the formal town called Scotland in Windham County was started later and is not the Scotland refered to) He marriedAnna Benedict, daughter of John and Sarah (Seeley) Benedict. (See Benedict linep. 9). Luke with 6 brothers enlisted from Danbury at the beginning of the war.The census of 1790 for Connecticut (p. 12) gives Luke Roberts as a resident ofDanbury with 2 males of 16 yrs or over, 3 males under 16, and 4 females.

This could equate to: Males > 16 = Luke (abt 55) and Luke Jr.(22)
                                         Males < 16   = David (14), John Benedict(8), and Daniel Bly (5)
                                         Females = 4 = Anna (abt 50), Polly (20), Betsy (18), and perhaps Sarah Jordan Luke Jr;s wife.

The 1800 census identifies a Luke Roberts in Vermont. This was thought to be Luke Robertsr Jr but requires adjusting the top age of 45 to 32 for both male andfemale and grouping all of the girls as less than 10. The family reported couldbe as follows:
                                         Males < 10 = 1 (Osee)                Females > 10 < 16 = 4 (Hannah, 9; Polly, 7; Anna, 2;
                                         Males < 16 = 1 (Roswell)and Sally, less than 1)
                                         Males > 45 = 1 (Luke)> 45 (Sarah)

As another Luke is not identified in the Census the question is Where is the other Luke Jr.?. Possiblity of death occuring before 1800 or he might have been inanother household. Our records give abt 1815 as the year of Luke's death in Danbury, Connecticut.

It is believed that many records of Danbury were destroyed by fire when the Brittish Army attacked.

Sources: Place of Birth: Scotland has been identified as an area in the Town ofSimsbury, in 1730, that became part of the town of Bloomfield. No record hasbeen located, to date Feb 2002, that would place Luke Roberts there.

From pedigree generated by John Kistzmiller's with a notation of serving in Rev.War. I therefore estimated that he was older than Luke Jr. who served at age 13. This conclusion places him somewhere abt. 1762. as I considered the first boy would be called Luke.
