Age at death: 78. Memories written by Mary Lewis Jensen.

Mother learned to drive when she was about 35. She never did reallydrive very well but it gave her some freedom. She had a car and very fewother ladies did, so when she took a drive she gathered up her friendsand they all went together. Abigail Crosby Neilson was her favoritefriend. Abigail was always part of the carload. My Aunt Leone, dad'ssister was often along. My Aunt Hilda, mother's sister, was oftenincluded. If mother failed to pick up one of her carload, they were veryupset. Mother lerned to shift the gears, sort of, but she didn't want tobe involved with shifting more than she had to, so she'd start out in lowand rev it up a bit and shift directly into third. So every ride had afew moments of lurch, lurch, lug, lug included free. Lynette WhitneyMann taught mother to drive while dad was in school working. When dadtook her out to teach her to drive, he didn't have the patience andmother would cry and get mad.
Dad loved to drink pop, and loved to eat candy. He wasn't moderatein either respect but could drink a twelve ounce bottle of pop in oneswig without ever taking the bottle from his lips. He liked his candyhard and plenty of it. He'd grab a handful of lemon drops and put themall into his mouth at the same time and chew them up. Even when thegirls were away from home, dad came to visit. He loved to drink Pepsi,so Esther would leave it for him. One time she was gone about a week. She came home to find a bottle and a newspaper for every day she'd beengone sitting on the table exactly where he'd left them. Dee and Jenniehad a little dog. They bought expensive dog food for him. One dayJennie had left a dog biscuit that looked kind of like an old dried uphamburger on the table and had left the house. Dad walked through thekitchen, saw the biscuit and took a big bite. He later told Jennie thatwas awfully bad hamburger.
