       Lovell, Wyo -- Claude Alvin Lewis, 77, well-known Wyoming andMontana rancher and stockman, died of a heart attack late Tuesday atWarren MT as he was leaving his car to inspect livestock.
       Funeral services will be at 2 pm Friday in the Cowley LDS Chapelwith Bishop Louis B Welch officiating.  Burial will be in the CowleyCemetery with the Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell in charge.
       Mr Lewis was born 12 Nov 1886 at Bountiful UT, a son of Mr and MrsDavid Lewis, and came to the Big Horn Basin in 1900.  He marriedCharlotte May Marchant, who died 4 Dec 1950.
       He married Nellie W Terrell in Billings 12 Jun 1954.  Mr Lewis was ahigh priest of the LDS Church in Cowley.
       He leaves his widow, three daughters, Mrs Ila May Hopkins ofColorado Springs CO, Mrs Louise L Welch and Mrs Ethel Crosby, both ofCowley; one son, Croft M Lewis of Cowley; one brother, Rudger R Lewis ofCowley; one sister, Mrs Verle Ann Smith of Casper; 21 grandchildren and17 great-grandchildren.


C A Lewis Funeral Friday
       Funeral services for Claude Alvin Lewis, 78, Cowley, will be heldFriday at 2 pm from Cowley LDS chapel with Bishop Louis B Welchofficiating.
       Mr Lewis was driving in the hills east of Warren Tuesday when hebecame stuck.  He apparently tried to walk for help and suffered a fatalheart attack.
       He was born 12 Nov 1886 in Bountiful UT, the son of Mr and Mrs DavidLewis Jr.  He was married to Charlotte May Marchant who passed away 14Dec 1950.  On 12 Jun 1954 he married Nellie W Terrell; she preceded himin death.
       The sheep rancher had been a resident of Big Horn County since 1900.
       Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Ila May Hopkin of ColoradoSprings CO, Mrs Louise L Welch and Mrs Ethel Crosby, both of Cowley; oneson, Croft Marchant Lewis of Cowley; one brother, Rudger Rowland Lewis;one sister, Verla Ann Smith; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

       Ila May Lewis Hopkin, 86, died Monday night, 23 May 1994, in theBethesda Care Center in Worland where she had been a resident for manyyears.
       She was born 31 Dec 1907 in Cowley, the daughter of Claude Alvin andCharlotte May Marchant Lewis.  She grew up in Cowley and attended the BigHorn Academy in Cowley.  On 9 Dec 1926 she married Leo N (Speck] Hopkin.They made their home in Cowley after their marriage.  Mr Hopkin died in1960.
       Ila enjoyed dancing and good music and very much enjoyed visitingwith her many good friends.  She was a member of the LDS Church.
       She is survived by two sons, Neil Hopkin of Lovell and John Hopkinof Billings; two daughters, Charlotte Lewis of Cowley and Helen Cockrellof Lovell; one brother, Croft Marchant Lewis of Cowley; 16 grandchildrenand 48 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, herhusband, two brothers, David and Claude Jr, three sisters, Louise, Eva,and Ethel, and a daughter, Hazel Wambeke.
       Funeral services will be Thursday, 26 May 1994 at 10:00 am inHaskell Funeral Home with Bishop Joe Yates officiating.  Burial will bein the Cowley Cemetery.

An oldest child, good mother, tended younger brothers and sisters, frankand truthful, perfectionist, crocheted many items, had much adversity inher life, mischievous, played piano and sang, popular in school, manyfriends, homemaker, loved dancing, when 11 years old drove 1920 cartaking kids for rides around Cowley, first home was a 2-room log housecabin.

       Cowley WY -- Louise Lewis Welch, a lifelong resident of the Big HornBasin, lived on a farm west of Cowley since she married Charles F Welchin 1944 in Billings MT.  Mrs Welch, 67, died Thursday in Lovell North BigHorn Hospital.
       Born in Cowley, she was the daughter of Claude A and Charlotte Lewis.
       Survivors include her husband; two sons, James L McDermott of SaltLake City UT and Dr Robert G Welch of Wichita Falls TX; four daughters,Gae Asay and Carol Baston, both of Billings, Emily Tebbs of Riverton UT,and Terry Brown of Cupertino CA; two sisters, Ila Hopkin of Worland andEthel Crosby of Cowley; a brother, Croft M Lewis of Riverton WY; 25grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

                   Ethel Lewis Crosby, 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died 6May 1991 at the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell WY following a lengthyillness.
       She was born in Cowley WY on 26 Oct 1917 to Claude A and CharlotteMarchant Lewis.  On 30 Jul 1940 she married Rodney Welch Crosby inCowley.  Mrs Crosby was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter-Day Saints.  She served as the ward dance director with herhusband, a a Primary teacher, and as a piano accompanist for many youthsoloists.  She loved working with the young people in their capacities.She served as president of the Lovell WY Woman's Club, chairman of theLovell WY Rose Queen Pageant, and also served in numerous volunteerorganizations.  She was a member of the Wyoming Cow Belles, the WyomingWoolgrowers Association, and a patron of the Buffalo Bill HistoricalCenter.
       She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild; and threebrothers and sisters.

       Mr Lewis was born in Cowley 1 Aug 1922 the son of Claude Alvin andCharlotte Marchant Lewis.  He attended school in Cowley and attended theUniversity of Wyoming for two years.  It is at the university where hemet his wife, Evelyn Whitehouse.  The couple married 6 May 1924 inKimball NE.
       Bus ranched and farmed with his father for many years.  He didcarpentry work and various other jobs the past few years.  He wasemployed by Georgia Pacific as a guard at the time of his death.
       He enjoyed his family, growing a huge garden and canning theharvest, tending his many flower beds, fishing with friends, golfing andcooking.
       Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Lewis of the family homein Cowley, and Linda Jackson of Gillette; two sons, Keith W Lewis of OremUT and Nick Lewis of Lovell; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers,four sisters, two sons and one grandchild.
