Biography of Thatcher Clark Hallett by Valera Snow Whatcott: Great Grandfather
«/b»My grandfather, Thatcher Clark Hallet, son of Zenas and Lydia Hallet Baker, was born 5 May 1810 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts. His wife, Phebe Bray, daughter of Thomas Bray and Phebe Chase, was born 25 April 1808, also in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Very little is known about either of them as they died while coming across the plains and were buried near Mt. Pisgah. Their names are inscribed on a large monument there is honor of many of our pioneers who died while on their way to Zion. We do not know if they embraced the gospel while living in Yarmouth or not.

We first find them in Richmond, Missouri, where their first child Thatcher Clark was born. From there they went to Lima, Illinois. While in Nauvoo, Thatcher Clark and his wife, Phebe, received their endowments in 1846 and were sealed in the Nauvoo temple. They also received their patriarchal blessing while there. Before leaving there, they were baptized for his parents and some of his grandparents. While in Nauvoo, he served as ward clerk and stake clerk and many valuable records were kept and preserved by him which became very beneficial to the church a few years later. (Taken from the History of Patriarch Gardner Snow) by Archibald Bennet.

His lineage dates back to Andrew Hallett (called the "Schoolmaster") who came here in 1635 from Dorset England. He is also a descendant of many Pilgrims and Puritans who took an active part in building up the settlement of Plymouth and surrounding towns.

Thatcher Clark and Pheve Bray were the parents of five children: Thatcher Clark born in Richmond, Missouri, 7 January 1836; died 30 November 1908; Amanda born 1838 in Richmond, Missouri, died while coming across the plains in 1852; Louise born 1840, died in 1852 while coming across the plains; Hyrum, born 15 January 1843 in Lima, Hancock, Illinois; Mary Elizabeth, born 13 December 1845 in Pisgah, Hancock, Illinois, died 16 August 1927, Provo, Utah (My grandmother).

While in Nauvoo, Ann Rosray Gould was sealed to him. We do not know if she was his second wife or not. In that day many women asked to be sealed to a man without being married to him. We have no record of him being married more than once.
