«b»William Worden ante 1514-1574 by Waite W. Worden, c1992«/b» - Pg. 39 - Peter Worden I - ca. 1576-1639 - "have found no record of the date of his departure from England; nor of the place of his arrival in North America; nor what ship brought him here from England. He was living in Yarmouth, on Cape Cod, in January 1638/1639. . . made his will 9 February 1638/1639 . . . .died by 5 March 1638/1639 when his will was probated in the Plymouth Colony Court. . had only one son, named Peter Worden. . had a grandson named Johgn Lewis who was under 18 years of age. . . no mention of a wife or any other children in his will. . . He signed his will proving he was literate. . . He also had some sort of personal seal . . Had land in Clayton, County of "Lankester". Peter's occupation in England was apparently that of a merchant of textile goods, with a shop under the Moothall (Town Hall) of Preston. Buried in the Worden Cemetery in East Dennis, Massachusetts (on Cape Cod), just off US Route 6A. Peter's wife was Margaret Grice Wall, widow of Anthony, who had died in 1601. She and Peter were married in 1603/1604. Margaret was born between 1566 and 1571 and died in the early part of 1612. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Grice, who died in 1588 and his wife Alice, surname not known. «b»Some Descendants of William WORDEN (1514 - 1574) http://washington.ancestryregister.com/WORDEN00006.htm «/b» Peter WORDEN was born about 1576 in Clayton, Clayton le Moors, Lancashire, England, died before 5 Mar 1638/39 in Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA and was buried before 5 Mar 1638/39 in East Dennis, Massachusetts. Peter married Margaret GRICE (See Link for Ancestry) daughter of Thomas GRICE and Alice 'Agnes' HOLDWORTH, about 1603 in Clayton, Clayton le Moors, Lancashire, England. Margaret was born Betw 1568 and 1572 in Clayton, Clayton le Moors, Lancashire, England and died in 1612 in Clayton, Clayton le Moors, Lancashire, England. (Research):«b»William Worden ante 1514-1574 by Waite W. Worden, c1992«/b» - Peter Worden I was born (ca. 1576) in Claytyon and had his schooling there. For some time he resided and worked in nearby Preston, where he was engaged in some aspect of business. He had a store, shop, or stall in the Moothall of Preston, was active in borough affairs as a burgess and a member of the Town Council and occasionally served as a juror in matters of estate settlement. He was an inspector of cloth (an alnager) for the County around 1625. There is evidence that he moved back to Clayton. During the last few years ofn his life he lost his wife Margaret after 8-9 years of married life and was lefgt with 5 stepchildren and 3 of his own children, the youngest, Peter (Jr.) being only about 3 years of age. He also lost his daughter Bridget in 1628 and a grandson, Edmund Swansey, in 1636. Perhaps things had been a bib too much for Peter, prompting him to take his son, Peter II, and grandson, John Lewis, to New England to start a new life.

«b»William Worden ante 1514-1574 by Waite W. Worden, c1992«/b» - Peter Worden made his will 9 January 16791680. A codicil was dated the 29th of July 1680/1680. His estate was inventoried on 20 January 1680/1681. His will was submitted to Plymouth Colory Court for probate on 3 March 1680/1681. He had some military service during the "late war with the Indians" or King Phillip's War which ended in August 1676. Peter's wife was Mary. It is thought that they married in England, because Peter's will referred to land in England that "came by my wife." He was literate because he signed his will and the codicil. Mary died 6 March 1686/87, surviving Peter by 6 years. They had three daughters and one son, Samuel. They were 1)Mary Worden, born 1639 who married John Burge (Burgess) in 1657; they had four sons and one daughter. 2) Mercy Worden born 1640/41 married Kenelm Winslow, 2nd. They had six sons and one daughter. 3) Martha Worden born 1643 and married Joseph Severance. She died 1725 at age 82 yr. 4) Samuel Worden who becamed a physician, born 1646 and was the youngest. Peter Worden, II and his wife, Mary, are buried in the Worden Cemetery, East Dennis, MA, alongside the body of his father.
