Obituary - Noble Pioneer Passes into the Great Beyond
After a useful life of nearly 74 years, Jane Snow Peterson, wife of John Peterson of Castle Dale, Emery passed into the great beyond last Saturday. She was of a noble character and always lived so that she had the respect of her associates wherever she was. She was born the 6 of June 1836 in Winchester IL, emigrated to Utah with her parents, Horace Roberts and Harriet McEverett in the year of 1801, settled in Provo in 1852. She afterwards moved to Dixie, Utah with her husband James Snow, remained in Dixie six years and returned to Sterling, Sanpete County, where he husband died leaving her a widow. She lived single for 4 years after which she married her present husband John Peterson. She with her late husband left Sterling, Sanpete County and moved into Emery County in 1886 and settled in here she lived up to her death which took place on the 19th of February 1910. She leaves 4 girls and 6 boys with her former husband James Snow and her present husband to mourn her loss.

Aunt Jame as she was familiarly known here was one of the very few at the time of her death who had seen the profit Joseph Smith before and after his death. She was in the Masonic Hall at Nauvoo when the martyred prophet and his brother Hyrum laid out for the saints to gaze upon. She had also talked to the prophet and had seen him attired in his military dress as Lieutenant of the Nauvoo Legion. She was all pleased to talk of the early history of the church and did so with her heart full of patriotism and she was always a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her funeral occurred at the academy Hall at Castle Dale on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock PM and there were at the services a large crowd of people from here and other towns of the county. The speakers were Bishop P.I. Akelund and Elder A.E. Wall of Castledale and Mrs. P.A. Childs and Mrs. Killan of Orangeville who paid very glowing tributes to the memory of the noble woman.
