Find a Grave - Isaac Morley - 11 Mar 1786 in Montague, Franklin, Massachusetts - died 24 June 1865 in Fairview, Sanpete, Utah, USA The son of Thos. E. Morley, Isaac served his country in the War of 1812 and in June of 1812 he married Lucy Gunn. When Oliver Cowdery and companions passed through Ohio in 1830 Isaac was converted and he was ordained a High Priest June 3, 1831, by Lyman Wight, and as a counselor to Bishop Partridge. This office he held until the death of Partridge in 1840. He was also appointed by revelation to travel to Missouri with Ezra Booth, "preaching by the way." In 1835, Isaac traveled to the East on a mission with Partridge. On their return to Kirtland the Prophet Joseph wrote: The word of the Lord came to me, saying: "Behold I am well pleased with my servant Isaac Morley and my servant Edward Partridge, because of the integrity of their hearts in laboring in my vineyard..." He attended the dedication of the Kirtland Temple and went to Missouri where he helped to locate Far Wesy. On Nov. 7, 1837, he was ordained Patriarch of Far West and remained at Far West until the infamous extermination order and was one of those taken and marched to Richmond to await trial. He located in Illinois near Lima, Hancock county; naming the settlement Yelrome (some have suggested Yelrom). The fall of 1845 his property was burned by a mob, and he was driven to Nauvoo, where he remained until the exodus. At Winter Quarters he buried Lucy and in 1848 he emigrated to the Valley. In 1849 he settled Sanpete valley. The winter was very severe and the food was barely sufficient. The last decade of his life he devoted himself to his calling as a Patriarch, conferring blessings upon thousands. Hannah married John Carter in Scarborough. They became the parents of eleven children. Hannah was very ill at the time she heard the gospel, from the missionaries, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They told her if she had faith, she could be healed. They blessed her. She was made whole, arose, and asked to be baptized and confirmed that same day. Her husband and three of her children did not join the Church. Her family moved with the Church from place to place; Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa. Hannah worked hard to raise a large family in a time of many hardships and religious persecution. Six of her children shawred her beliefs and followed her example. In 1842, Hannah and John signed a deed in Hancoc County, purchasing land at Morley's Settlement. They helped to develop this new community only to be driven from it in 1846. Her son, Dominicus, was an expert blacksmith who was asked to remain at council Bluffs, to help prepare the emigrant trains for the long journey West. Another son enlisted int he Mormon Batalion and died in service on the march to California. Hannah left her husband and crossed the Plains with Domicus and his family in 1851. Shortly after their arrive in the Salt Lake Valley 20 June 1851, they went on to make their home in Provo. She continued to live with Dominicus.
