HISTORY: Enlisted in Union Army 20 Jul 1864 as Drummer in Company B, 1st Columbia Volunteers, Washington, DC. In spring of 1865 the 1st and 2nd DC Volunteer Infantry consolidated into one regiment.He mustered out 12 Sep 1865.  His regiment presented him with a silver mounted drum which cost $60.00. A good share of the time he was in the Army he served as a dispatch carrier. Several times he delivered dispatches to President Abraham Lincoln at the War Department in Washington, DC.
