1881 British Census lists him as an unmarried male with occupation of Ag Lab (Agricultural Laborer) and in the Militia in Hereford.  He lived in the household of his widowed mother, Catherine Thomas.

He married 15 Oct 1886.

He is listed as a witness at the marriage of his brother, Christopher Thomas.  It is on that marriage certificate that we learn his middle initail stands for "Charles".
