Notes:
On film #0884112, the Record of Second Ward of Liberty Stake, found in the Family History Library, the following information was found. Elggren, Albert John: Address 745 South 5th East, #1, Salt Lake City, Utah. Head of household. Father, Adolph Fredrick Elggren, Mother, Johanna C. Samuelson. Date of birth 29 June 1876, Malad, Oneida, Idaho. Blessed by John Price on 1 Jul 1876. Baptized on 1 Jul 1884 by John Cottam and Confirmed by Adolph F. Elggren on 3 Jul 1884. Ordained an Elder, 25 Sept. 1899, by Edwin S. Perry. Ordained a High Priest by Bryant S. Hinckley on 28 Jan 1912. Temple Marriage in Salt Lake Temple on 5 June 1901 to Vilate Elizabeth Lewis. Wife Vilate E. Lewis, member. Daughter, Martha Elggren, born 11 Nov 1905, Salt Lake City, Utah. Died 27 Nov 1956. Sustained a Stake Patriarch to Liberty Stake on 26 Feb 1956.

I have decided to take the date that A.J. Elggren put in his history of 27 May 1901 as being ordained to an Elder rather than what we found in the 2nd Ward records. The ward reocrd was made years later so there could have possibly been an error in recording.

BIOGRAPHY: According to his history, his parents were married by Bishop Davis of the Seventeeth Ward, in Salt Lake City, Utah on 18 April 1866. The first ten years of their married life was spent in Salt Lake City. Early in the spring of 1876 they moved to Malad City, Idaho on to a homestead, where Albert John was born. They lived in Idaho until he was about four years of age. About 1880 his parents returned to Salt Lake City and settled in their old home in the Sixteenth Ward, living on the West side of the block in which President Joseph F. Smith and his families lived. The first school he attended was the old rock school house situated on First North West Street. His first teacher was Thomas Howells. Among the children he played with were the children of the well known families of President Smith's, Andrew Peterson, Charles Decker, William Derr, Thomas Pierpont, Peter Reid and many others.
In the year 1884, the Elggren family moved to a farm at Hooper, Weber County, Utah, where Albert John spent his boyhood days. It was his duty to help in all the duties of the farm. During the winter months he attended the old adobe school, being taught by a Mr. Bevans, who instructed in the three "R's" and physical strength. The school was located at Hooper, Utah, being nearly three miles from the farm. He walked to and from each day. Later he attended the North Hooper School, located a little more than a mile away and was taught by Miss May Stimpsom; from which he graduated from the eighth grade. He was chosen to give the valedictory talk at the graduating exercises held in Ogden for all the eighth grades graduating from Weber County. Later he attended the Weber Stake Academy at Ogden, boarding with some other boys of the neighborhood; subsequently attending the Latter-day Saint College at Salt Lake City. He later obtained a scholarship to the University of Utah where he took the normal course, expecting to become a teacher in the grade schools of our state. While living in Hooper he was ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood and made a teacher under the hands of Elder John Hooper. In 1897, his father was called on a second mission to his native land, (Sweden), and during this time the family moved back to Salt Lake City, and resided again in the Sixteenth Ward. That year he attended the University of Utah, and also the proceeding year, making two years at the institution. Owing to the shortage of finances and father being away on his mision, he sought and secured work as a clerk in the office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. John R. Park, where he worked for two years. He then obtained employment as bookkeeper and general saleman for E. F. Hanna, a merchandise broker of Salt Lake, for whom he worked for six years, working himself up until he became a partner with Mr. Hanna in his business. In 1906 he found and established the business firm of Elggren Brothers and Company, Merchandise Brokers. He acted as head and general manager. His brothers A. Fred Elggren and Lorenzo E. Elggren were partners in this business.
During all this time he was active in the Church duties having been ordained to the office of Priest on September 25, 1899, by Bishop's counselor Edwin F. Parry, and on May 27,1901 was ordained to the office of Elder.
On June 5, 1901, Albert John Elggren and Vilate Elizabeth Lewis were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They became the parents of eleven children, seven living to adulthood and four boys dying in infancy or early childhood. The names of the children are: Albert Lewis, Martha, Mary Lenora, John Elmer, Charles Allen, William Harold, Raymond Wallace. Paul Adolph, Ralph Waldo, Richard Norman and Joseph Earl died young.
In 1903, he was chosen and made President of the Fourth Quorum of Elders in the Salt Lake Stake of Zion and later President of the Fourth Quorum of Elders of the Liberty Stake of Zion. He served in this capacity until January 8, 1912, when he was ordained to the office of Seventy, by Richard Chamberlin. In February 1912, he was called to act as Second Counselor to Bishop Heber C. Iverson and was ordained to the office of High Priest, January 28,1912, by Bryant S, Hinckley. He served in this capacity for eight years. When Bishop Iverson was called to the Presidency of the Northwestern States Mission, Henry B. Elder was chosen Bishop of the Second Ward and Albert John was made his Second Counselor, later when George Bowles moved from the ward and Albert was made first counselor and Brother Charles E. Rose was made second counselor. They were setapart by Elder James E. Talmage and Hugh H Cannon, respectively, April 13,1919 and October 2 1919, respectively,

She was the thrid child, also the third daughter of her parents, Willaim Crawford Lewis and Martha Ann Kingsbury. The oldest child of this union was Addie who was four years and four days older that Vilate. The second child, Loenza, died when she was eight months old. Her playmate and companion, Annie Orison, was baptized at the same time. A hole deep enough was located and the two girls were dressed to be baptized when they left home. Vilate went into the water first because Annie thought if Vilate could do it she could also. They were then wrapped up in quilts and taken home in our wet clothes. They were then taken to the fast meeting to be confirmed. Fast day was then held on the first Thursday of each month.
