                   NOTES:
    1. George was considered a devout member of the Society of Friends in Massachusetts. In 1668 religious persecution drove George and Sarah with some of their children from Scituate, MA to Perquimons, NC. One of the earliest Quaker meeting houses was built towards the end of the 17th Century at Sutton's Creek, so named because it bordered the land of George Sutton and his sons.
    2. George Sutton was one of seven servants of Nathaniel Tilden of Tenderden, Kent, England, on the ship, "The Hercules", which sailed in 1634. He may have been one of the poorer Puritans who often worked their passage to America with wealthier relatives or friends.
    3. George was a planter in Scituate from March 5, 1638/9 to 1643. He was also a town officer. He had lands laid out on 1st Herring Brook. He and his family were members of the Church of England until sometime after 1650, when at that time they began chasing the Quaker Faith. Within two years of the settlement of the group at Scituate, he married Sarah Tilden, daughter of Nathaniel.
