He was born premature andweighed under two pounds. How he survived was a
miracle; they kept him on an oven door and being August, it was probably
quite warm. His mother and father were only married 8 months and 12 days
and it caused quite a scandal among s ome members of the family, but
George was probably under 8 months  when he wa sborn, according to the
doctor.

Addicted to morphine afterstay in hospital. Aunt Edna used to get her
'medicine from the drug store, which was legal at the time. One holiday
weekend she could not get her morphine, took a shotgun to kill herself
and shot out her eyes. She became completely dependant on her step
daughters. Grandpa was working on various jobs out oftown. She had been
a housekeeper for George, and his father begged him not t omarry her, but
he did not believe the family was so mixed up.
