James HARDY
[Hardy.FTW] Lived in Bradford and moved to Tewksbury in 1749. They owned a house at Sandy Bay, Mass. (Gloucester) in 1741. He was received into the Bradford church on A ug 28, 1721 and was one of the 101 original members of the Groveland Second Con gregational Church organized in June, 1727. Late in lifehe lived in Andover, M ass.

They were admitted to the Wilmington church in Wilmington, Mass. Davidpurchased an 86 a cre farm at Danville, Vt in Jan of 1792 which he deeded tohis children in July , 1808. He was engaged in freighting goods to and fromthe Tewksbury, Sandown, Chester and Davnille areas for some years. They lived in Danville until they sold out in Jan 1818. the Baptist church began to develop in this town. They were staunch members

[Hardy.FTW] He was a soldier in the French and Indian war. He served under Captain Andrew Giddings in the Invasion of Canada in 1759. He married his first cousin. They settled in Rewksbury, Mass. sson after marriagne and lived there until about 1 785, when they moved to Andover, Mass.

He marched on the Lexington alarm, 04-19-1775, with other minute men of Hollis, New Hampshire, but Capt. Rueben Dow sent him home, because "he was greatly needed by his family of little ones." [Hardy.FTW] A soldier in the Revolutionary war, Massachusetts service. Owneda farm near T ewksbury, Massachusetts. He was somewhat in debt and decided to sell his farm and buy another near Sandown, NH of about 70 acres. He was able to pay off all his obligations. The farm he bought was about forty miles east on the Exeter River. Sandown NH was 2 miles south, and Chester village was located three mil es to the west. They moved in the spring of 1803, his family consisting of his wife, children: Dorcas, Dr. Jonathan and wife Betsy, and their child, Polley, Peter, Hannah, Polley, Rhoda, Ephraim and Sophia. He would reside on this farm until his death. Dr. Jonathan lived with them and helped them farm until he d ecided to practice in Danville, Vermont..He moved there the first time in 180 6, and again in 02-1812. Soon thereafter their son, Peter, and his wife, Nancy , moved into their home and helped them farm. However, after some years, Nancy did not care to live there any longer so Peter's oldest daughter, Dorcas, and her husband , Joseph Wood, movedto the old homestead and took care of them the remainder of their days. After their death, Joseph Wood farmed the place unti l his death, and his son, Joseph until his death also. Peter Hardy prospered o n this farm, and his home was a large mansion on the great highway leading to t he large town of Portsmouth, NH. He fell from a ladder in his barn and receive d injuries from which he never recovered. He suffered in bed for nine weeks be fore his death. His will was probated on April 30, 1834.
