Frederick Denison wrote in his journal in 1872: "In his day, Dea. Daniel wasone of the 'nobles of the soil', and honored among his townsmen. In his christian office he faithfully served Presbyterian (now 1st Cong.) Church in Stonington, and live d to see much of the 'great revival' that swept so gloriously through this land. The memories of a good man are his. The remains, withthose of his wife, Mary, are now in Elm Grove Cemetery. From all we can gather, we venture the opinion that Dea. Daniel added the eastern portion to the Denison Mansion, to meet the needs of his goodly family and furnish ample scopefor his broad hospitality. What is now the village of Mystic Bridge, was originally a part of the old Denison plantation."
