The News Sentinel Tuesday, February 8, 1955 Henry P. Berger Henry P. BERGER,96, pioneer resident of Perry township, Miami county, died Monday morning atDukes Hospital, Peru, from coronary thrombosis. He had been critically ill for the past few days. A retired farmer, he resided on R.R. 2, Macy. He was born Feb. 19, 1858, in Perry township to Henry and Lavina (SWANK) BERGER. On March 6, 1887, he was married to Viola BUTT, who survives. Mr. Berger was a member of the Olive Branch church. Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Ethel CLEMANS, Mrs. Frank WHISLER and Mrs. Fayne FLENNER, all of Macy; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. One son and a brother preceded himin death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. CST Wednesday at the Ebenezer church. The Rev. D. L. SLAYBAUGH and the Rev. Walter CROSBY will officiate. Burial will be in the Mexico cemetery. The body was taken from the Sheetz funeral home in Akron to the residence at noon today where friends may call. It will also lie in state at the church an hour prior to the services.
NAME: From mother's obituary: Alma Whistler Mrs. Alma WHISTLER, 80, Akron, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday in the National nursing home. She had been a patient five days and ill four years. Born Sept. 19, 1890, in Miami county, she was the daughter of Henry and Viola BUTT BERGER. Her marriage was in 1914, to FrankWHISTLER. He preceded in death in 1961. She had resided in the Akron area five years. She was a member of the Emanual United Methodist church and the WSCS. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Willadean) HELVEY, Akron; Mrs. Otho (Norma) BRY, LaOtto, Ind.; Mrs. Phyllis FOOR, Galion, O.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fayne (Edna) FLENNER, R.R. 2, Macy. One brother and two sisters preceded in death. Final rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sheetz funeral home in Akron. The Rev. ClaudeFAWNS will officiate.
