Russell Alan POPE

                   Russell Alan Pope (9) was the second child a son of Albert Platt
Pope (8) andWinifred Harriett Ritz Pope.
Russell Alan attended the Lind Center State Grade School.  At the
age of twenty he joined the United States Army at Tacoma, Washington.  He
went to boot camp at Vancouver Barracks, Washington and later to Angel
Island, California.  After his boot camp training he was assigned to
Nogales, Arizona joining the 12th Infantry of Company E.  With the
outbrea kof the war his regiment was reassigned to San Francisco,
California where h ejoined Company E, 62nd Infantry and transferred to
Camp Fremont, California where he became a training officer for new
recruits for eighteen months. He wasthen stationed in Camp Mills, New
York.  With the end of the war he was r eassigned to Camp Lee, Virginia.
With a final stationing at Camp Dodge, Iowa wherehe took part in the
United States Infantry Rifle Team, baseball team, and captain of the
basketball and football teams.  He was placed on reserve d uty status on
March 22, 1920.  With his final honorable discharge on June 21, 1920.
After the service he returned to Waupaca, Wisconsin where he continu ed
sportsparticipating in various baseball and basketball teams for the
st ate.
He worked from January 18, 1924 to June 1938 (as far as noted) as a
ru ral mail carrier for Route 2 Waupaca, Wisconsin.
Russell Alan (9) Pope ma rried Nelle Elizabeth Peterson (daughter of
John and Gertrude Petersen of Wey uwega) on April18, 1925.  From this
union in marriage there were two off spr ings.
