[gates2ramos.FTW] [Lawrence.GED] John Lawrence was baptized at Wisset 8 Oct 1609. He was admitted freeman 17 Apr 1637 and received a grant of three acres of land at Watertown, Massachusetts 28 Feb 1636. In 1650, John, a carpenter by trade, bought fifteen acres of common land from the town. He sold his mansion and land at Watertown in 1662 and moved to Groton, Middlesex, MA. In December 1662, he was elected selectman of Groton. He continued his business of carpentry at Watertown, Groton, and Boston. His first wife Elizabeth Cooke died29 Aug 1663. NOTE: Some reference volumes refer to this Elizabeth Cooke asa daughter of Francis Cooke of 1620 "MAYFLOWER" fame and Hester Mahieu. Thisconnection is still being researched. JLR, 11/1996
