Major George Morris, of New Kent County, was a early surveyor and is prominently mentioned in county records. He had patented thousands of acres of land in Rappahannock and New Kent counties. On July 29, 1667 Major George Morris and Mr. John Long, one of the husbands of Catherine Morris Petty, received a land patent for 1600 acres. On April 1, 1685 Major Morris conveyed his half interest in this 1600 acres to his grandchildren, Thomas Pettus (Petty, Pettit, Pettis) and his sister Mrs. Catherine Longe.
