Joel PETTIT
Joel and family migrated to Marshall County, Kentucky between 1840 and 1850. The family lived on ClarkÕs Creek where he had a grist mill and saw mill. Mary, his wife died before 1860 (according to Federal Census) and he died in Johnson County, Illinois in 1874 (Perrin: Ballard County WhoÕs Who). It is believed that Mary Black was one half Indian, either from the Cherokee or Chickasaw Tribe.
