Damase was born in 1825 and married twice. His second marriage was toEmma Nadeau in 1884. No evidence was found that they ever had anychildren. His first wife, Modeste (Georgianna) Pelletier was the mother of sevenchildren and the ancester Lucien was the youngest. At the time of his marriage, Damase's parents were from SaintAlexandre. The Tanguay sources list Damase as being born in 1825 but the actualrecords of the Parish and the headstone on his grave indicate he was born in1830. The death notes in the original parish records indicate that Damase diedat the age of 96 years and 11 months. This would mean that he was born inJune of 1830. Lucien arrived with a wife, 3 children & 1 child on the waywith 10 cents in his pocket. He knew a man there who gave them dinner and letthem stay overnight. He bought a small house and started a blacksmith business. Lucien was born and brought up in Saint Alexandre, Quebec, Canada. Hewent by the initials J.L. to most who knew him. At the age of 14, he went toGreen Island (L'Isle Verte), which is located South of Riviere du Loup.There, he began his apprenticeship as a blacksmith at the salary of five centsper day. He met his future wife, Leda Gagnon, while working at L'Isle Verte.When Lucien was 18 years of age, he and Leda were married. There is a possibility that Lucien's birth year is 1868. Lucien died of cancer at age 70 yrs, 6 months. Leda and Lucien had 12 children, 7 daughters, 5 sons. They celebratedtheir 50th wedding anniversary on 26 OCT 1937 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick,Canada They met and courted in Fall River, Massachusetts, while working atthe mills there. According to Marina Belanger McCormack, Lucien Belanger married LedaGagnon on 26 OCT 1887 in Isle Verte, Quebec, Canada.
