Notes:
William was an American soldier and explorer. He entered the UnitedStates
Army in about 1789. While serving with General Anthony Mad AnthonyWAYNE in
an Indian campaign in 1795, he met the American explorer MeriwetherLEWIS. In
1803, LEWIS asked CLARK to join him on an expedition through the newly
acquired Louisiana Purchase.
What's now known as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, began at SaintLouis,
Missouri on 14 MAY 1804. The expedition ended at the place it startedon 23
SEP 1806. During the long journey, CLARK drew maps and illustratedwildlife
found along the journey.
After his return, he worked on the reports of the trip. In 1807 he was
commissioned as a Brigadier General in the Militia of what was laterthe
Missouri Territory. He also became Superentendent of Indian Affairs atSaint
Louis. He became Governor of the Territory in 1813 and spent thefollowing
eight years in quelling Indian disturbances, which were particularlybitter
during the War of 1812. He later truned to Surveying and in 1828,designed the
City of Paducah in Kentucky.
Information from SOlney: 1830 Hinds Co., MS census; 1800, in Franklin Co., GA Tax List replacing Census; Census 1810 in Warren Co., KY. I belive this to be Dempsey's father due to migration route of Parkers, etc. There is a William Clark on the Warren Co., KY census of 1810 along with Thomas Putnam, Nathaniel Parker and Jane Parker. On the 1880 Leake Co., MS census, David Clark states both his parents were born in SC. It is this author's conclusion that Aaron, Benamin and Robert Clark are also sons of William.
