William WATKINS, JR
From Snead Notebook: Keziah Snead, is the first daughter Israel named in his will. She is thought to be the oldest of the girls, if not of the whole family. She may have been married by 1749 , when William Watkins bought land in Louisa County, Virginia. When William bought this land, he had as witnesses: John Snead, Miles burford, Samuel Snead and Israel Snead. If William was not yet married to Keziah, he was surrounded by those of the Snead family. On 25 October 1757, when the land was sold, Keziah signed the deed, acknowledging her dower rights and giving proof of the marriage. (Davis, Deed Book A and B, 128) The sale of the land in Virginia, it appears, was for the purpose of relocating in North Carolina. On 1 May 1758 William Watkins bought 200 acres in Anson County, on the south side of Hitchcock's Creek. (Holcomb, Vol II 28). On 8 January 1760, he bought 100 acres on Hitchcock's Creek. this deed was witnessed by Marshall Diggs (Ann Snead's husband) Later when William wrote his will, he named Keziah his wife. He named eleven children. The will was made 29 July 1789 and proven in January 1790. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Sources Title: 1790 Richmond County, North Carolina Census Media: Census Text: Keziah Watkins - head of family two males over 16 one male under 16 three girls http://www.gencircles.com/users/sparrow3307/2/data/232
