Notes:
Note: Thomas married Joan Waye in Powerstock, a small village about five miles northeast of Bridport. They had a daughter Mary there in 1612, and Joan died three years later. The next year, Thomas married Elizabeth Chard, a young widow of Aaron Cooke in Bridport. Elizabeth had a three year old son, Aaron Jr. Thomas and Elizabeth first settled in Bridport where their first two daughters were born and baptized, Joan 1617, and Abigail 1619. Between 1619 and 1629 they lived in Dorchester, Dorset about 14 miles northeast of Bridport where they had their next children baptized in the Holy Trinity Church, Thomas Jr., Hepzibah and Hannah. It was no doubt here that Thomas Ford met Rev. John White of Dorchester who was so influential in organizing the 1630 migration to America. Thomas and Elizabeth and their children emigrated to America on the ship Mary and John in 1630. Thomas was made a freeman in 1631, deputy to the general court from 1637 to 1640, a grand juror in 1643 and a juror in 1644. Thomas negotiated with the Indian Sachem Tehano for the purchase of land in 1637. This was about the time of the Pequot War. The land is now part of the town of Windsor, Connecticut. Thomas moved his family to Northampton (Hadley) in 1659.

The registers of Bridport, Dorsetshire, England, contain the
baptisms of some of the children of Thomas Ford (Thomas Ford of
Dorchester, page 41).
At nearby Powerstock, a numerous Ford family lived. Here a
Thomas Ford married a Julian Dun 29 Jan., 1607/8; a Thomas Ford
married a Joane Way, 13 Dec., 1610. Several writeres have tried
to make Joane Way the first wife of Thomas Ford, and that by
this marriage there was a daughter Mary whor married an Aaron
Cooke; thus making Aaron Cooke a son-in-law of Thomas Ford
(ibid. page 42)Coming to the American Colonies in 1630 on the
Mary and John, he first lived in Dorchester, MA; in Windsor, CT
in 1637; in Northampton by 1672. Anderson confused the issue of
wives on page 639 by writing, By jis second marriage Thomas Ford
became the stepfather of Aaron Cooke [ITAL] (ibid. page 689).
However, this later corrected to state first marriage [ITAL]
(ibid. page 2091). Anderson seems to accept Thomas Ford had
only two wives, Elizabeth Charde, the Widow of Cooke; and Ann
the widow of Thomas Scott (ibid., pp. 688-689).
