John HUMPHREY, GENT OF CHALDON

per Faris (1999) p. 191: [quote] ELIZABETH PELHAM, seventh child and
fifth daughter, was born at Hellingly on 27 Apr. 1604. She was married at
Salisbury on 4 Sep. 1621 to COL. JOHN HUMPHREY, of Fordington, Dorset,
son of Michael Humphrey of Chaldon Herring, Dorset, by his wife Dorothy
Bawler. He was born about 1595, and had been married previously to Isabel
Williams. ELIZABETH PELHAM died on 1 Nov. 1628. He was married for the
third time about 1630 to Susan Clinton (or Fiennes), daughter of
Theophilus Clinton, Earl of Lincoln. They emigrated to New England in
1634 and settled at Lynn, Massachusetts. The will of Collonel John
Humfrey of Westminster, Middlesex, was dated 16 Dec. 1651 and proved 23
Mar. 1651/2 (P.C.C., 1653, fol. 297).
