The Mormons that colonized, if I can use that word, Raymond Alberta, was not for polygamy rea sons. They left Payson, Utah, to settle in Raymond and cultivate the land for sugar beets fo r the sugar beet factory starting up. My grand father was William Warren Depew and he was th e foreman to Raymond Knight who headed up the group from payson. Grandpa plowed the first fur row in Raymond and had a farm south of the town. The factory was in business until the 1950's , but is not anymore. The sugar beets now go to Taber Alberta. (quote: GW.Fisher)
