He succeeded to the family's estates upon the death of his
father in 1338, upon payment of a fine to the Crown for the
livery of his inheritance. He must have died about 1365 for two
years later the executors of the estate of Sir Thomas Newburgh
were absolved by the bishop on making restitution on the profits
which the said Sir Thomas had received for selling the lead
which covered the roof of the parish church in his manor of
Winfrith.
