Andrew DURAND, JR

Durand: During King Philip's War, Andrew Durand was in Captain Samuel Hull's company in Colonel Benjamin Hall's regiment and served for the relief of Fort William Henry and parts adjacent, [in] August [of] 1757. This company was from Wallingford and New Cheshire in Wallingford. The first two children of Andrew and Eunice (Hotchkiss) Durand Andrew and Samuel, were twins born December 3, 1758. They had ten more children; the youngest two, Clarissa (b. 1777) and John (bp. 1779) both died on April 6, 1781, very likely from typhoid fever. After their marriage, Andrew and Eunice settled into the parish of New Cheshire in Wallingford, which in 1780 became the town of Cheshire. All but [his] youngest child were recorded in Wallingford Vital Records. The last five are recorded in Parson Foot's Records of Baptisms, page 355, Town Recrods of Cheshire. Andrew Durand was a farmer. After his death on May 11, 1826, he was buried in the Old Graveyard in Cheshire, his gravestone stating that he was 'aged 95.' See Note Page S.R. Durand: Samuel Durand was born December 3, 1758 in Wallingford, Connecticut. At the age of twenty he enlisted in the Continental Army on April 1, 1778, and served as a musician in Captain Jotham Curtis' Connecticut Company. This company was engaged in guarding the Sound near East Haven. As a young man, Samuel Durand was a cabinetmaker in Hamden, Connecticut. He was married June 7, 1781 to Susannah Coughlin Hitchcock. They settled in Cheshire, where he became a farmer. Samuel Durand died January 24, 1831, and was buried in the Old Graveyard in Cheshire, Connecticut.
