After receiving his educ ation he engaged in farming until 1855, when he moved to Wisconsin and there continued to far m until 1863. when he moved to Iowa and settled in Winneshiek county and again engaged in far ming until 1867, when he moved to Tama County and again farmed for 2 years; then he came to M adison where he owned 97 acres of well-improved land. His wife was 16 when they married.
