                   Horatio Jones Brewer served in the Union army, and after the war was a paymaster, travelling , among other places, up the Rio Grande to about El Paso, and up the Missouri to Helena, Montana, carrying army payrolls. He was a member of the Mendelsohn Glee Club in New York City for many years. The copper stein set was awarded to him for his length of service. At some point he must have become interested in his ancestry, as much of the Brewer genealogy material comes from him.
He resided at 313 W. 91st Street in New York City during most of Talbot Brewer's life.
