Walker EVANS, JR

                   Walker Jr. left his family to move next door and live with Louise Hower, with whom he had apparently been carrying on an affair for sometime. Mrs. Hower divorced her husband in 1918, at which time Walker made the move. In 1919, Jessie, Jane, and Walker III moved from Toledo, where they had been living, to New York City. Walker never divorced Jessie, but never returned to her, although he continued to support the family until his death. I never recall my mother, Jane, mentioning her father. The only time she would say anything about him was in response to a direct question, and then in such a manner that I was discouraged from pursuing the matter.
